Twenty-year-old François (Philippe Marlaud) is madly in love with his girlfriend Anne (Marie Rivière), five years his senior. One morning, he spots her leaving her apartment with married pilot Christian (Mathieu Carrière). Swelling with jealousy and all kinds of speculation, he decides to tail the man across Paris — an impulsive pursuit that leads him to Lucie (Anne-Laure Meury), a vivacious teenage girl who is intrigued by his odd behaviour and ends up assisting his investigation.
Mary Stephen first met Éric Rohmer as a student on his course. They began their creative collaboration on The Aviator's Wife, with Stephen working as assistant editor to Cécile Decugis, who also edited many important films from the French New Wave, including Jean-Luc Godard’s Breathless. Stephen also made a brief appearance in the film.
Followed by an in-person Q&A with Mary Stephen, moderated by Daniel Turner.
Presented in collaboration with the ICA.
