At the hyper-competitive Enshan school, students are kept in line by state-of-the-art AI surveillance technology and iSmart, a nationwide tech initiative that tracks performance and attendance. In the days before the elite school’s final exams, order descends into chaos when an anonymous note predicts the suicide of an unnamed student.

Join us for the UK premiere of this latest film by acclaimed director Kiwi Chow – award-winning filmmaker of Ten Years and box office smash Beyond the Dream. Unavailable to watch in Hong Kong itself, Deadline is an Orwellian thriller about a near future where the connected worlds of AI technology, education, and authoritarian governments leave little space for freedom and humanity to flourish.

In collaboration with cinematographer Danny Szeto Yat-lui, Chow has made his most artistically ambitious work yet. Enshan’s hallways are transformed in Deadline’s dystopian, sci-fi world to offer a stark warning of how a system can corrupt even those with the best intentions.

Followed by an online Q&A with Kiwi Chow.

Film distributed in the UK by DOVC.

Content warning: Themes of suicide and self-harm.
